I thought about it my freshman year but I'll be honest; I didn't think I'd fit in. But the beginning of my junior year, I ran into Mr. Chidley in the shop and he told me all about it, and said that he'd see me at the next meeting. I absolutely adore the atmosphere. The people here are just wonderful. It's filled with laughs and smiles. I couldn't choose a better way to spend a majority of my weeknights. The FIRST experience I've had so far has definitely pulled me out of my comfort zone, and has given me a lot of knowledge I've never had.

Programming Crew

My story:

My motivation was, it was recommended by my oldest sibling, who was also on the Robotics team. My other reason was to get into college easier. On the Robotics team, I like the environment and general equality. FIRST has developed my social life beyond my few friends and family. Also, I have finally had an extracurricular!

Marketing Team

Junior (2nd Year)

What was your motivation to join?

I joined because my older brother asked me to join, along with everyone else on the team. I decided to go through with it because I was curious to see what it would be like being part of the team, instead of just hearing about it.

What do you like most?

what I like most is learning as many skills as possible and getting as much hands-on experience as possible. It is much more involved than school, requiring many fewer mandatory tasks, and having people do more, instead of listening more and doing less.

What impact has the FIRST experience had on you?

With FIRST, I have had the opportunity to get to meet more people than I would have on my own. In addition, I have been able to see more of the town, state, and region than I could have hoped for. I don't have any plans to go after this, but I know I have something that can probably get me somewhere in this world.

Mechanical Crew/Drive Team

I just always wanted to build robots. The people who go do the fairs with the robots always fascinated me a.k.a making me want to join. I like how the seniors and juniors aren't bossy towards the freshmen and that no matter what they're always willing to help. The FIRST experience impacted me by making me a better builder and be able to learn how to use the materials of the shop.

Programming Crew

Sophomore

My story:

I was interested in programming and seeing what FRC was about. Learning about how the FRC computers changesevery year and how to overcome these changes. FIRST has taught me about programming and how it is applied in a real-life situation.

Programming Crew/Marketing Team

Freshman

My story:

I have always been fascinated by things such as engineering, software design, and coding, so when I found out about the Robotics team in middle school, I immediately decided it was something I wanted to join. This is my first year here, and so far, the experience has been every bit as rewarding as I was hoping it would be.

One of my favorite parts of the team is the community. Everyone here is very welcoming and accepting, and it is very easy to make friends given the cooperative aspect of building a robot. Also, we're BUILDING A ROBOT. Just think about that for a moment. We are using nothing but metal, wire and intuition, and making something that can move around, lift things up, shoot Frisbees, so on and so forth. That's pretty cool.

Since I joined Team 2168, I have learned a lot about what goes into building anything (not just a robot), and I have made many friends in the process. The overall experience is something you can't get elsewhere.

Marketing Crew

Freshman

My story:

Ever since middle school, I have always wanted to do Robotics. I wanted to do something I liked, rather than follow my friends. I like how the team "adopts" everyone that comes on the team. Everyone is extremely close and you usually don't see that. Using outreach I've gained confidence in public speaking.

14-Matt Nowak

CAD crew

Junior

My story:

I joined the Fitch Robotics Team because many upper classmen came up to me and told me that it was a great program and they thought I would be interested in the various work/events that the team has to offer. At first I didn't like the team because it seemed like an uninvolved program. After the first few weeks I realized that Robotics is practically a sport. Also I got addicted when the Drive Team showed me the robot for the first time. It drove out off a closet with beautiful red bumpers then I saw the details of the robot. Instantly I knew this program was perfect for me. Since this is my first year on the team I haven't attended too many events but I did attend the annual "Bash at the Beach." This season I hope that I will be able to design some new parts for our robot and construct these parts. Also I hope that I will be able to brainstorm ideas that will make our robot more efficient. In the future I hope to go to college and get a job as a designer or a carpenter.

Drive Team/Marketing Team
